SAINT PICKS (Girls) 6/24/09
The saint picks is a new element to Saint Cecilia that will keep college scouts and anyone else in the basketball world, current to who’s showing out at the saint. We will critique five boy players and three girl players each week of our summer league. Players will be picked based on performance. Analysis will be derived from college and high school coaches, Pierre Brooks (Saint supervisor), and the famous Dott Wilson.

Crystal
Bradford
|
Crystal has the best overall talent that I have seen this summer. To be honest, Crystal’s natural position is point guard. But, she excels so well at other aspects of the game, it’s hard to designate her to one position. She has as knack for playing passing lanes and finishing by smacking out. On one breakaway that she had, I almost fell out of my seat because she got up so high, I thought she was going to cram it! I was just in awe as I saw Crystal create off the dribble as well as in the post. She displayed an array of moves which kept me Crystal has incredible shot blocking, rebounding, ball handling and passing ability. She passes well out of the post and on the wing. If I were a Division I coach and I needed a multitalented player, Crystal would be my number one recruit. And I’m saying this just from seeing the kid play two times. JUNIOR PHENOM!!! |

Creiona Posey Jr. PG 5'6 Detroit Cody HS |
Speedy point guard who runs the show for the mighty lady Comets. She has the best ball handling ability of any guard at the Saint this summer. |

Chloe Srebernak Sr SG 5’9 Lefty Grosse Pointe South HS |
The first thing that stands about Chloe is that she is tough. Chloe is one of the most versatile players that I have seen this summer at the Saint. Chloe has the ability to handle the ball, rebound, defend on the perimeter as well as the post, and drive to the basket with great upper body strength. In a game against Oak Park, Chloe really put on a show. She broke Oak Park’s press several times literally by herself. When the ball was not in her hands she ran the floor well. On a couple of moves to the basket she wooed the crowd with a spin move and a no look pass exhibiting her ability to make plays. At this point I would consider Chloe a hidden gem. Not only does Chloe excel on the basketball court, Chloe has made her mark in the classroom as well. She scored a 33 on the ACT and a 2100 on the SAT. WOW!!! |

Caprice Dennis Soph SG 5’7 Detroit Pershing HS |
Caprice is a pure shooter with no conscious. And get this, she’s only a sophomore. In the five or more games that I’ve watched Caprice she has hit at least three 3 point shots each game. Partly, because of backcourt mate Dorina Barret’s ability to get into the gut of the defense and kick it. In a game against Detroit Consortium, Caprice illustrated her ability to handle the pill and play solid defense. |

Brittney Hamlin Sr. PG 5’8 Detroit Consortium HS |
Brittney has dazzled crowds at St. Cecilia for two summers now. Brittney has great court vision and really likes to get her team mates involved in the offense. Brittney also exhibited the ability to break a press by herself. Her midrange jump shot seems pretty efficient and she really likes driving to the rack. Keep working Brittney, and we will see you at the next level. |

Diisa Swint-Cook Sr. SG 5’9 Oak Park HS |
Diisa is a very athletic wing player who really impressed me this evening. Diisa has very long arms which cause opposing players to become skeptical of passing or shooting when she’s in the area. In two games against Grosse Pointe South and Southfield Lathrup, Diisa scored a total of 28 points, and had 15 rebounds and 8 steals (numerous deflects). On Oak Park’s fast break Diisa’s athletic ability was very apparent as she rose over defenders and finished with ease. |

Lorreal Jones |
Lorreal has great skill and athletic ability. In every game I have watched Lorreal play she has put up big numbers (at least a double-double). She is very tough and gritty. I have seen her get on the floor several times getting to loose balls. She doesn’t mind contact and in fact seems as if she looks forward to it. Listen, if I'm playing against her, I don’t want her to check me. She has straight up locks. Another thing for sure, when she’s on the fast break and filling one of those lanes, if she gets the ball, its either a bucket, a foul, or both. Lorreal can hit the jumper, but would make her that much better if she worked on it a bit more. |

Asia is
questionably the best player in the state.

Erica Covile Soph. 5’9 Guard Detroit Cody HS |
Erica is simply amazing! And she’s on a sophomore. The 5’9 guard posted double-doubles along with the game winning buzzer beater against canton. She displayed an array of moves. She also showed good outside and midrange shooting ability. She began the game by attacking the basket. On defense her length causes trouble for the opposing guards, especially since she has active hands. She finished the game with 15 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 steals. This young guard will be a force to reckon with in the PSL for the next three years to come. |

Sara Schmitt |
Sara
proved to be a versatile player for the Chiefs this scorching afternoon. I was truly impressed with Sara’s
ability to pass, shoot, and dribble.
In a game against Detroit King Sara utilized the high post to pick apart
smaller King defenders. The
Chiefs’ coach, Brian Samulski, informed me that
her twin sister is just as good (absent today). |
